Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the substance was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack left him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
