The artist has handed over the full amount of his £25,000 award prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to preserve the Britain's small live music spots.

The star was presented with the prize on 16 October as his third album People Watching was chosen as the top album of the previous year.

Fender has opted to hand the money over to the trust, in recognition of the vital role local spots fulfilled in his beginning days.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing this success if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the North East, and further afield, when I was beginning," remarked the artist. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – approximately 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, major artists like Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by applying a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.

Fender also joined in, raising in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist numerous small stages across Britain.

The donation assisted locations that were confronting potential shutdown due to challenges caused by water damage, fires and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces obtained monetary aid in modernizing amenities and gear that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The idea that revenue from performances in major spaces backs the local stages, where it begins for musicians like me, is just logical," Fender has stated.

He is among several artists to donate his honor funds to worthy causes.

Back when they received the prize in the year 1996 for their record their work, frontman Cocker stated that the band would donate their prize money to the non-profit War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer she split her prize among multiple good causes, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also contributed a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they required new equipment," Ms Dynamite explained to outlets.

In recent years, the band donated their prize money to the community center that nurtured their act, as well as other independent music bodies.

And winners that year M People donated their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was diagnosed the disease.

"Winning was quite enough," said vocalist Heather Small. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't need the extra, because we had the main prize. So our winning impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the trust announced it had rescued a couple of grassroots venues in that region, by placing them under community ownership.

The first in that area and The Croft in Bristol were acquired under the public acquisition initiative, which is supported by a national body and enthusiasts who purchase "ownership units" in the properties.
